This blog, written by our resident (ahem!) wordsmith, Marie Martin, is here to entertain, enlighten and enrich. That’s our intention. Feedback welcome though. Here’s a bit about our blogger…
It all started with Peter Sissons. A stalwart of both the major TV channels’ news programmes, Sissons reigned supreme in the 70s, 80s and 90s. It was during his stint presenting ITN’s News at One that he caught the interest of 4-year-old Marie. Racing home from nursery to watch his daily bulletins, it wasn’t long before our blogger named her favourite doll after the Liverpudlian journalist; he’d become her role model and it soon became clear how this connection may have been formed.
Whether it took the form of a ‘sorry’ letter to her mum, a tall tale in her school book or an entry in the letters section of the local newspaper (this happened just once!), Marie spent her time finding ways to write. She directed this passion for putting words together into her education, studying Literature and Magazine Journalism at university before embarking on a career as a writer.
So, let’s make it clear at this stage, Marie knows not very much about cars. But what she does know about is words…and putting them together. She also knows a lot about research and finding the best person to explain a subject matter. Then matching her way with words with their expertise to produce a piece of writing other people can read and be informed by. A bit like a journalist. A bit like Peter Sissons.
