Choice is very much a personal preference. Many people like their cars to be as family friendly and practical as possible and for that you need four doors. Somehow though those extra doors seem to detract from that sleek design that a coupé offers. More often than not two door cars look racier and more stylish.
Thus, if owners are prepared to put up with having to swing the front seat passenger seats out of the way to allow passengers into the back then a coupé might be preferable. Never mind that when the passengers need to get out they have to do so in the manner of a spider trying to get out of a cardboard box; that’s not the owners problem.
So if you can manage with just two passenger doors then there are numerous different second-hand coupé or coupé-style motors on the market to choose from and that could well be featured here on eCars247 at any time. Here are just five that bring all the benefits of the individual brand, but in a more sporting package:
The Mercedes-Benz C Class Coupé
This good sized car from the German master motor builders is spacious and comes with four generous seats and many family attributes. It handles well, has a generous boot and a plush ride. Mercedes-Benz is a prestige brand that even offers coupé styling in some four-door models and the interiors are finished to a high standard.
The Audi TT
Is this the ultimate affordable coupé? This tremendously popular car has proved to be a huge seller over the years and through several model generations, each better than the last. It’s an Audi, so quality is high and with a wide range of engines to choose from, including a frugal diesel, there’s a version for everyone. The interior also looks stunning, and the boot is surprisingly spacious. The TT is both agile and fast, offering a safe and exhilarating drive.
The BMW 2 Series
Space might be a bit limited in the back but this car is exceptional for the average price you will pay for it as a used car coupé. Its engine is economical, and the body of the car is smart and well designed. It drives very well with both great handling and a composed chassis as drivers expect from BMW. This is certainly one to consider for its overall effectiveness as an all-rounder. Small but perfectly formed.
The VW Scirocco
This is also a good looking coupé, and possibly one of the more practical on the list. It may not inhabit quite the same echelons as the previous cars, but can make for an extremely cost effective buy and there are plenty of good used examples to go around. It’s a Volkswagen so expect great handling and a decent amount of legroom in the surprisingly spacious interior. And finally, last but by no means least:
The Ford Mustang
It’s a Mustang isn’t it? Surely that is all that needs to be said? No? Well, alright then. The Ford Mustang, the ultimate pony car, must surely be the most legendary coupé... in the world. A few years ago after decades of UK yearning the America finally conceded and Britain got its very own right-hand-drive version. For most petrol-heads the sound of a rumbling V8 is like a symphony to the ears. Power comes from an eight-cylinder 5.0L engine and to appease those who like their emissions a bit lower, a turbo-charged 2.3L EcoBoost motor is a likeable alternative for better economy. Sadly, it does not have the same character as it’s mighty sibling. The Mustang is maybe not the best to drive, neither is it the fastest, but really that’s not the point. It’s a Mustang.
